Mr Mark Downward

Mr Mark Downward joined Murwillumbah East Primary School in 2009 as it's 5th Principal. Murwillumbah East is Mr Downwards' second principalship; he led Broken Hill Central PS, prior to his appointment to East. He has extensive experience as an educator in New South Wales as a classroom teacher and educational consultant. His teaching background is in Special Education and primary education.

Combined with his extensive special education experience Mr Downward has coached state basketball teams for both New South Wales and South Australia.  His services to basketball and children's sport recognized with the honour of carrying the Olympic torch in 2000.

Most recently he has continued that partnership with community sport by taking up the presidency of the Tweed Coast Tigers Australian Rules Club

He is married to Lucy, who works as a physiotherapist, and they have two children attending university.
